Dinghy Racing

The BSA organises dinghy racing in Lasers, Toppers, Echo 12s and Optimists, in conjunction with the Barbados Optimist Dinghy Association. Dinghy regattas are held on Saturday afternoons between January and June with the highlight of the dinghy calendar being the National Dinghy Championships. These Championships comprise a series of eight regattas held during the months of September to December.

Other dinghy racing includes specific events such as the Virgin Atlantic Dinghy Regatta traditionally held at the end of the summer camps, and trials for overseas events. Sailors are encouraged to attend overseas events wherever possible, and the BSA has a policy of providing assistance to sailors that wish to travel. The major overseas event is the annual Caribbean Dinghy Championships. Sailors attending this regatta are representing Barbados and must be selected. Other events include Schoelcher Sailing Week in Martinique, which local Optimist and Laser Sailors regularly attend.
